  • New Australian licensee announced as Crafted Furniture. A renowned furniture retailer across Australia that has craft and supporting local makers at its core.
  • This exciting news comes alongside an agreement with a previous manufacturer to where possible, support customers of the previous business in the fulfilment of their outstanding orders.

Luxury furniture brand Maker&Son has further reinforced its business by announcing an exciting global expansion, with a licensing deal signed between Maker&Son Licenses Ltd and Crafted Furniture of Australia.

Crafted Furniture will manage all new customer orders and sell the same luxury furniture direct to customers in Australia under the Maker&Son brand. This will operate separately from the Crafted Furniture Business, which was established in 2015, but will offer a perfect synergy as Maker&Son’s high-quality products fit the Crafted Furniture brand and its many customers.

Maker&Son and Crafted Furniture have come together to offer customers the same beautifully handmade high-quality furniture pieces whilst supporting local craftspeople. Maker&Son is already a well-loved brand in Australia, and Crafted Furniture intends to take the brand to the next level across all states with some exciting growth plans.

Paul Deukmedjian and Rahul Raja, Crafted founders, said: “We’ve been big believers in the Maker&Son brand since its inception and are incredibly excited to be bringing the brand back to life in Australia.

“We’re thrilled to be the licensee for Maker&Son in Australia – we believe the brand echoes the ethos of Crafted, which is to create beautiful, handmade furniture locally, using the finest materials and craftsmanship.

“We’re drawn to Maker&Son’s uncompromising pursuit of quality and craftsmanship, and we feel that the brand deeply resonates with the Australian lifestyle.”

Crafted Furniture operates three furniture showrooms – two in Sydney and one in Melbourne – In which customers will be able to discover the process of making a Maker&Son sofa and the love that goes into crafting these beautiful pieces of furniture. Customers will have the opportunity to go on a shared journey to create a bespoke, handcrafted Maker&Son piece for their home.

Significant investment will be put into transforming the Crafted Showrooms to create a unique Maker&Son experience for customers. There are exciting plans to launch further Maker&Son branded showrooms across other territories in NSW, Melbourne and Brisbane later this year.

The team at Maker&Son Licenses will work alongside Crafted Furniture during the transition period and beyond, with global marketing and brand support, to further elevate the brand in Australia and develop the product range.

Jack Mason, Group CEO of Inc & Co, parent company of Maker&Son, said: “We have worked tirelessly to overcome several hurdles in relation to debt inherited from the previous ownership and to ensure that customers are protected.

Whilst we have also remained determined to realise the success that the legacy of this brand can achieve. We, therefore, have adapted our approach and brought forward a plan to license the brand in Australia in order to fast-track its potential to reach a larger customer base much quicker.

“We are delighted that Maker&Son Licenses have signed a licensing deal with Crafted Furniture. Together, they will act as the brand guardian moving forward in Australia, ensuring that customers receive the quality of product and service they rightly expect. Alongside this, there will be significant investment in the Maker&Son showroom experience for our customers and further growth across Australia, which we cannot wait to see.”

“We received significant interest in the license agreement for Australia from a number of parties, but at this stage, we believe Rahul, Paul, and their team are the perfect choice to lead the business forward in this territory.”

The Australia licensee announcement follows on the heels of a recent announcement that The Hastings Sofa Company has been appointed to manage the brand in the UK and Ireland. Maker&Son has expansion plans to target five global territories by the end of 2023.
